It’s been a long time coming… my Sensei has always tried to get me to come out and assist him with the kids classes. I never took an interest over the 8 years I’ve been training with him. Wow… 8 years… good God man! But finally, today I showed up and the look on his face was so encouraging. I don’t think I have ever seen him light up like that before…. just goes to show how powerful eye contact and a genuine smile are when greeting someone that walks into the room. It’s like [...]
I’m noticing behavioural changes in my day to day habits. I’m beginning to pick up on a pattern of “highs” and “lows”. Sometimes I say to myself “that’s how I like it, life is a roller coaster baby yeah yeah.” and then the bigger me comes in and says “stress will kill ya kiddo, relax and hold it steady, live longer.” I think highs and lows are good if you can remain calm, cool and collected throughout them. If you bounce up like a yo-yo every time your work load is at a high and [...]
Man oh man. It’s late, it’s Christmas and I’m tired. I just blogged on nauticalprogressions.net, I just got over a flu and I’m not in the mood to write everything :p So instead, I vlogged it! I thought it was fitting since this particular piece relates to church and baptism… I mean it is Christmas. Hear me out and share your thoughts, this is something I’ve been chewing on for some time. I thought I was ready to make a move but thankfully I haven’t yet. What’s your advice?
Now I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I’ve got a lot to teach (and even more to learn) and would like to take the time to share one of Bruce Lee’s most valueable lessons; Know the difference between “Inactive Activity” and “Active Inactivity”. My business professor would always tell me to take a time out… not to work around the clock. That he has the same habit of obsessing over work and being unable to walk away from it until it’s settled. Truth is, there is no need to make tomorrow’s problem [...]
So as you may or may not know, I’m more or less bed ridden with a dislocated foot that is pending surgery. I haven’t bathed since before the incident (it’s been a while don’t ask) and I’ve been making myself vulnerable to negative thoughts and feelings. Amazingly, after posting a status message on my Facebook profile (Christien needs some friendly inspiration) I got a few gifts of wisdom from old friends who felt compelled to answer my call. One of which I haven’t spoken to in years but reminded me that inspiration truly comes from [...]
I was raised to believe that Quitters Never Win and Winners Never Quit. Is this myth or fact? Recently I’ve read that the most successful people in the world quit more often than they stick. There’s something to be said about knowing when to walk away, come back another day or move on to the next best thing. Sometimes one has to cut their losses before things get worse and truly futile. How far does one really have to go to learn the lesson and walk away unscathed? I think the original quote simply seeks [...]
I picked up a new book this week called “The Power of Intention : Learning to Co-create Your World Your Way”, written by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer Within the first 10 pages of the book, i felt like I was reading “The Power of Now” a different book written by Eckhart Tolle. Both of these men sound alike, the only difference is their choice of words. Eckhart refers to our “being” as the source of joy… as our metaphysical state… for Dr. Dyer, he calls it “intention”. Both agree however, that the ego is competing [...]
